History of International Sports University, Maharashtra: Dr. Vijay Khole committee, Act of 28 December 2020, Balewadi campus and first-phase undergraduate programmes.
A committee chaired by former Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University, Dr. Vijay Khole, prepared the framework for a specialised sports university in Maharashtra. The International Sports University, Maharashtra Act was published on 28 December 2020 (Maharashtra Act No. XXXV of 2020).
The University headquarters were located at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge–Balewadi, Pune. The complex was originally developed for national games and later refurbished for the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. Locating ISUM here places classrooms and laboratories next to competition-grade athletics, aquatics, indoor and outdoor facilities.
Academic beginnings
Public reporting in 2022 described first-phase undergraduate offerings after UGC nomenclature alignment: Bachelor of Sports Science and Bachelor of Sports Management. These remain the flagship programmes presented on this official portal, with additional programmes marked as proposed or to be notified until the Academic Council and Government issue formal notifications.
Early manpower planning publicly referred to a proposal of teaching, non-teaching and management posts, with phased recruitment. Actual sanctioned strength, advertisements and appointments are published only through official recruitment notifications on this website.
Institutional character
ISUM is listed as a State University. It is not a private college. Admissions, examinations, recruitment and certificates issued by the University follow State University procedures, reservation policy of the Government of Maharashtra, and UGC norms as applicable.
