Statutory objectives of International Sports University, Maharashtra: competent sports personnel, State training centre, international practices, elite athlete support and sports knowledge resource.
The Maharashtra International Sports University Act, 2020 establishes ISUM as a specialised institution for physical education, sports sciences, sports medicine, sports technology, sports governance, sports management, sports media and communication, coaching and high-performance training.
Core statutory objectives
- Create competent personnel in sports, coaching, sports science and sports administration.
- Function as a State training centre for select sports disciplines notified by the Government of Maharashtra.
- Adopt best international practices in sports education, athlete development and sports science support.
- Serve as a resource centre for sports-related knowledge, research and policy support.
- Operate as a centre of excellence for elite and talented sportspersons, including dual-career support.
How objectives shape teaching
Undergraduate programmes in Sports Science and Sports Management, together with proposed postgraduate, diploma, certificate and doctoral pathways, are designed around these objectives. Practical training uses the athletics stadium, aquatic centre, indoor halls, outdoor fields and high-performance spaces of the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex.
Research, coach education and sports technology are not add-ons; they are part of the University’s legal character as a specialised sports university of Maharashtra.
